The gelatin silver print is made on fibre based fine art photographic paper and selenium toned.

Size: 7 inches X 9 inches on 8 X 10 paper.

Bromoils start out as black and white prints on fine art fiber based paper by developing, fixing and washings. The same kind of photographic paper used in the early 1900's is still used today.

The silver in the print is then bleached out in a chemical bath until just a hint of the image remains.

The matrix is now ready to have an oily pigment applied with a special brush. By smearing the ink on first and then using a stippling or hopping action with the brush the final image slowly appears after repeated soakings and work with the brush. The stippling action adds ink and the hopping action removes the ink.

Between each of the processes the print must be dried and then soaked in water just prior to the next step.
The process dates back to 1907.
